“BIMSTEC” Scholarships at Nalanda University

For Master’s and Doctoral Programmes: Academic Session 2019-20

Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India has announced establishment of 30 BIMSTEC Scholarships for students from BIMSTEC countries for pursuing higher studies at Nalanda University. A total of 24 scholarships for Masters and six for Doctoral programmes will be offered for the next two academic years 2019-20 and 2020-21. It is proposed to admit students from BIMSTEC countries under this scholarship from the ensuing academic year 2019-20.

The scholarship will cover one time admission fee, tuition fee, hostel accommodation and contingency allowance. The students will also be paid a stipend to cover meal and other expenditure.

The admissions to Masters and Doctoral programmes are available in the following schools:-

1. a) School of Historical Studies (SHS).
2. b) School of Ecology and environment Studies (SEES).
3. c) School of Buddhist Studies, Philosophy and Comparative Religions (SBSPCR).

The application form for the Masters and Ph.D. programmes are attached. The eligibility conditions for international students for Masters and Doctoral programmes are as under:

A) Master’s Programme:-

a) Essential Eligibility Criteria:-

A Bachelor’s Degree with minimum 15 years of prior studies with a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.2 or above on a 4 point scale or equivalent grade if other grade point scale is used.

The international applicants shall present the score of any one of the following English Language Tests/ or proof of knowledge of English:

• TOEFL (Test of English as Foreign Language)
• IELTS (International English Language Testing System)
• Any other standard English test used on international platform, or
• Completed a full-time degree-level course entirely taught and assessed in English.

 b) Admission Process/Procedure:-

International students have to visit the University website at www.nalandauniv.edu.in  for downloading the Application form.

The duly-filled Application Form and a Statement of Purpose (SOP) along with all the documents should be submitted to foreignstudents@nalandauniv.edu.in.The candidate is to pay an Application Fee of USD 08 (Eight US Dollars only or equivalent in Indian currency) towards the processing of the Application through RTGS/NEFT using the details given below:

B) Doctoral Programme:

a) Essential Eligibility Criteria:

1. Applicant should have a Master’s degree with at least 65% marks or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA), preferably with dissertation at Masters’ level or M.Phil. Degree with 65% marks or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA).
2. Applicant to submit a Letter of Self Introduction, and 2 Letters of Recommendation/ References.
3. Applicant to submit a Statement of Purpose (SoP) (The SoP should clearly state the reason for opting the course/program and choosing Nalanda University)
4. Applicant to submit a detailed Research Proposal (which will be put through plagiarism check)
5. Applicant to submit evidence of any research such as writing samples or published papers (at least 2 to 3).
6. International applicants have to submit a language proficiency proof such as:
   • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
   • IELTS (International English Language Testing System)
   • Any other standard English test on international platform. or
   • Completed a full-time degree-level course taught and assessed entirely in English

 b) Admission Process/Procedure and Selection Procedure:–

International students have to visit the University website at www.nalandauniv.edu.in for downloading the Application form.

The duly-filled Application Form and a Statement of Purpose (SOP) along with all the documents (Two recommendation letters, detailed research proposal and evidence of any previous research) should be submitted to foreignstudents@nalandauniv.edu.in. The candidate has to pay an Application Fee of USD 08 (Eight US Dollars only or equivalent in Indian currency) towards the processing of the Application through RTGS/NEFT using the details given below:

C) Academic session and reporting of students.

 The academic session 2019-21 commences on 05th August 2019 and the International students are to report to the university on 3rd/4th August 2019.

It is requested that the announcement may be widely circulated among the local population to motivate young students to avail this opportunity and apply for the Programmes at the earliest – the last date being 31st July 2019.
